Publication Ethics
Journal of Islamic Business and Economics Research (JIBER) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices. This policy is formulated in strict adherence to the guidelines and flowcharts provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies to all stakeholders: Authors, Editors, Reviewers, and the Publisher (Algoria Global Indonesia).
1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDITORS
a. Fairness and Impartiality
Editors evaluate submitted manuscripts solely on their academic merit (intellectual content, originality, clarity, and validity) without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
b. Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
c. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Editors must recuse themselves from processing manuscripts if they have any competing interests (personal, financial, or professional) with the authors. They must also ensure that all conflicts of interest disclosed by authors and reviewers are managed appropriately.
d. Decision Making
The Editor-in-Chief has the full authority to accept, reject, or request revisions for a manuscript. The final decision must be based on the reviewers' reports, with the assurance that no commercial or personal considerations influence the decision.
e. Investigation of Misconduct
Editors, in conjunction with the publisher, are obligated to take responsive and proportional measures when ethical complaints are raised regarding a submitted or published paper. This includes contacting the authors, evaluating the evidence, and, if necessary, issuing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern in line with COPE guidelines.
2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF REVIEWERS
a. Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists the editorial board in making decisions and may also help the author improve the quality of the paper through constructive feedback.
b. Confidentiality
Reviewers must treat the manuscript as a confidential document and must not share or discuss the content with anyone without the explicit permission of the editor.
c. Objectivity and Standards
Reviews must be conducted objectively. Reviewers must express their views clearly with supporting arguments. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
d. Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers must notify the editor if they identify substantial similarity, overlap, or suspected plagiarism between the submitted manuscript and any other published paper they are aware of.
e. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must decline the invitation to review if they have any conflict of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or their institutions.
3. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS
a. Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. Any use of the work or words of others must be appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism in all its forms (self-plagiarism, mosaic, or verbatim copying) constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is strictly prohibited. All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin) and must have a similarity index of below 20% (excluding bibliography).
b. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Submission
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. This is unethical and unacceptable. If a manuscript is under review elsewhere, it must be withdrawn before submission to JIBER.
c. Data Fabrication and Falsification
Authors must present their results clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation. The data underlying the findings should be accurately presented and accessible to the editors upon request.
d. Authorship Criteria
Only persons who have made a significant intellectual contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study are eligible to be listed as authors. All co-authors must have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors are properly included and have consented to the submission.
e. Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
f. Conflict of Interest Disclosure
All authors must disclose any financial, personal, or institutional relationships that might bias their work. A formal conflict of interest statement must be included in the manuscript.
g. Research Involving Human Subjects or Animals
If the research involves human participants, authors must confirm that the study received approval from an appropriate institutional ethics committee and that informed consent was obtained from all participants. For animal studies, compliance with institutional and international guidelines on animal welfare is mandatory.
h. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
While AI tools (such as for language editing or data analysis) may be used, authors must transparently disclose their use in the manuscript. AI language models (e.g., ChatGPT) cannot be listed as co-authors, as they cannot take responsibility for the submitted work.
i. Fundamental Errors in Published Works
If authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are obliged to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate in retracting or correcting the paper.
4. HANDLING OF MISCONDUCT AND POST-PUBLICATION ISSUES
In accordance with COPE's flowcharts, JIBER adheres to the following procedures:
-
Plagiarism Detection: Suspected plagiarism is investigated immediately. If verified, the manuscript will be rejected (if in review) or retracted (if published).
-
Corrections and Retractions: If errors are identified in a published article that affect the interpretation of the data or conclusions, a formal Correction or Erratum will be issued. In cases of severe ethical violations (e.g., data fabrication, duplicate publication), the article will be Retracted. A formal retraction notice will be published and linked to the original article.
-
Expressions of Concern: If an investigation into alleged misconduct is inconclusive or takes time, JIBER may publish an Expression of Concern to alert readers.
-
Appeals and Complaints: Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a formal appeal letter to the Editor-in-Chief, presenting substantial evidence. All appeals will be reviewed objectively by the editorial board following COPE guidelines.
5. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND OPEN ACCESS
All articles published in JIBER are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license (or appropriate open-access license). This allows authors to retain copyright while granting the journal the right of first publication. Authors are responsible for securing necessary permissions for reproducing any previously published materials.
6. REPORTING ETHICAL CONCERNS
Any individual (reader, reviewer, or author) who suspects that an ethical breach has occurred is encouraged to report it confidentially to the editorial office via the official journal email. All reports will be taken seriously and investigated promptly in accordance with COPE's best practice guidelines.
