1. INTRODUCTION AND COMMITMENT
JIBER is firmly committed to the long-term preservation and permanent accessibility of its scholarly content. Recognizing that digital information is vulnerable to technological obsolescence, hardware failures, and institutional changes, the journal has implemented a robust archiving strategy. This policy ensures that all published articles remain discoverable, citable, and accessible to researchers, practitioners, and the public in perpetuity, safeguarding the academic record for future generations.
2. DIGITAL ARCHIVING SYSTEMS
To guarantee the security and longevity of its content, JIBER participates in established, internationally recognized digital preservation initiatives:
A. LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
-
JIBER participates in the LOCKSS program, an open-source, decentralized digital preservation system developed by Stanford University Libraries.
-
Under this system, participating libraries worldwide automatically collect, store, and preserve copies of JIBER's content. If the journal's primary website becomes temporarily or permanently unavailable, the content remains accessible through the LOCKSS network.
-
This distributed "caching" mechanism ensures that multiple geographically dispersed copies exist, minimizing the risk of permanent data loss.
B. CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS)
-
In addition to LOCKSS, JIBER participates in CLOCKSS, a dark archive system designed for long-term preservation.
-
CLOCKSS operates as a fail-safe mechanism. Content is stored in a "dark" archive and is only made publicly available if the journal ceases operations, faces a catastrophic technical failure, or is no longer maintained.
-
This provides an ultimate safety net, ensuring that JIBER's intellectual contributions remain accessible even in the most extreme scenarios.
C. Portico (Optional/Preferred)
-
If applicable, JIBER also deposits its content with Portico, a community-supported digital archive trusted by libraries and publishers worldwide. Portico ensures that content is preserved and available for future scholars.
3. DOI AND PERSISTENT IDENTIFIERS
-
Every article published in JIBER is assigned a unique and permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI) upon acceptance.
-
DOIs are registered with Crossref, a globally recognized official DOI registration agency. This ensures that the article's metadata (title, author, abstract, and citation information) is permanently linked to the article itself.
-
The DOI system guarantees that even if the journal's website URL changes, the article can always be resolved to its current location via the DOI resolver (e.g.,
https://doi.org/10.xxxx/jiber.2026.001). -
All citation data is also deposited with Crossref, facilitating accurate indexing and citation tracking.
4. NATIONAL AND INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORIES
To ensure regional accessibility and compliance with national regulations, JIBER actively deposits its content into the following repositories:
| Repository | Description |
|---|---|
| Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital) | JIBER deposits full-text articles and metadata into Garuda, the Indonesian national digital reference system managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. This ensures national visibility and long-term preservation within Indonesia's academic infrastructure. |
| National Library of Indonesia | Articles are deposited with the National Library of Indonesia for legal deposit and preservation in accordance with Indonesian copyright and library regulations. |
| Zenodo | As a general-purpose open repository developed by CERN, Zenodo provides additional cross-disciplinary archiving and ensures compatibility with European and international research infrastructures. |
| Google Scholar | All metadata and full texts are harvested by Google Scholar for global discoverability. |
5. AUTHOR SELF-ARCHIVING (GREEN OPEN ACCESS)
In addition to the journal's official archiving systems, JIBER supports and encourages author self-archiving (often referred to as Green Open Access). Authors are permitted and encouraged to deposit their published articles in the following venues without any embargo period:
-
Institutional Repositories: The author's own university or institutional repository.
-
Subject-Based Repositories: Specialized repositories (e.g., SSRN, EconStor, IDEAS/RePEc).
-
Academic Social Networks: Platforms such as ResearchGate, Academia.edu, or Google Scholar Profiles.
-
Personal Websites: The author's personal academic website or blog.
Conditions for Self-Archiving:
-
Authors must clearly cite the original publication in JIBER, including the full bibliographic details and the DOI.
-
Authors must include a link to the official published version on the JIBER website.
-
Authors must state the CC BY 4.0 license under which the work is published.
6. JOURNAL WEBSITE MAINTENANCE AND BACKUPS
-
The journal's website and underlying server infrastructure are maintained by Algoria Global Indonesia with rigorous, scheduled daily backups to secure off-site servers.
-
The editorial office employs modern content management systems, security protocols, and encryption to prevent data loss, cyber-attacks, and unauthorized access.
-
In the event of a technical migration or website upgrade, the editorial team ensures that all previously published content, DOIs, and metadata are seamlessly transferred without loss of functionality.
7. METADATA PRESERVATION
Beyond the full-text articles, JIBER ensures the preservation of high-quality metadata (including authors, affiliations, abstracts, keywords, references, and funder information). This metadata is:
-
Deposited with Crossref at the time of publication.
-
Encoded in standard XML formats to ensure future interoperability.
-
Made available through the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), allowing other repositories, indexing services, and discovery systems to harvest and preserve the bibliographic data.
8. EMERGENCY AND CONTINGENCY PLAN
Should JIBER ever need to cease operations or face an extended downtime, the following emergency protocols are in place:
-
Trigger: The publisher (Algoria Global Indonesia) will issue a formal notification to all archiving partners (LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, Crossref, Garuda, and Zenodo) at least 90 days in advance.
-
Activation of Dark Archives: CLOCKSS and Portico (if applicable) will trigger their "dark archive" protocols to make all preserved content freely available to the public.
-
Transfer of Ownership: If a new publisher is appointed, all metadata and full-text content will be migrated to the new platform without any loss to the academic record.
-
DOI Redirection: All DOIs will remain active and will be redirected to the archived versions.
9. AUTHORS' RESPONSIBILITY
While JIBER takes comprehensive measures to preserve content, authors are also encouraged to:
-
Maintain personal digital and physical copies of their published articles.
-
Ensure their institutional repositories are updated with the published version (with proper citation and DOI).
